Plan your Christmas wedding in 2020 now

Despite being hailed one of the top wedding dates to avoid, you can still pull off a perfectly festive Christmas wedding, given enough time…

Save the date for your winter 2020 wedding

It might seem a bit early to be planning your wedding for winter next year right now, especially when all the articles are about spring 2020 weddings, however we know how popular Christmas weddings are and if you leave it any longer, you may not get the date or venue you had your heart set on.

Book the venue now

Wedding venues can be hard to come by at Christmas due to the high number of other events that get booked for that time of year. It might be a good idea to take advantage of all the wedding fairs that are starting to happen, so you can get a look around your favourite venues. Wedding fairs that are held at the venue itself will usually be dressed for a wedding and this will give you terrific insight into how it will look for your day, plus there will be no end of suppliers to collect details (and samples) from.

Save the date straight away

Your guests will be surprised to receive your save the date for Christmas just as the daffodils are poking their heads up, but they will certainly appreciate the long notice period. There is a lot of stress that comes from planning anything around the festive period and if you can set the date with your friends and family early on, they will simply love you for it.

Visit a wedding fair

Let’s go back to the idea of visiting a wedding fair. Ok, so your intended might think you’ve got wedding fever and are rushing into this, but wedding fairs are the best place to get advice from for the little things like which cocktails to serve right up to the venue itself. Here’s a reminder of how to survive your first wedding fair!

First and most importantly, take your chief bridesmaid, or most trusted friend (or your fiancé of course).

  • Take water, you’ll be doing a lot of walking and talking!
  • Speaking of walking, wear comfy shoes
  • Have you listed your priorities?
  • If you have a wedding planning book or colour swatches, don’t leave them at home
  • Be prepared to carry lots of bags – most wedding suppliers will have bags for their flyers or samples, but not all
  • Making notes on flyers and business cards is a good idea, so take a pen

Are you prepared to buy on the day? Many suppliers offer promotional wedding fair discount so discuss with your partner before you get there so that you can grab a bargain!
